Explore Flat Rock
Flat Rock is a quaint and very historic village located three miles south of Hendersonville (about 30 miles south of Asheville). It's home to the fascinating Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site Connemara, Flat Rock Playhouse and some local shops, galleries and restaurants.
Flat Rock dates back to a time when the Cherokee met on the great flat rock which is still visible today. Flat Rock was established about 1807 and became the "Little Charleston of the Mountains" with summer homes to escape the heat. Many of those historic homes are now on the National Register of Historic Places.
